The 16-player Champion of Champions Shootout invitational brings together this season's winners and best performing cueists from the Professional and Challenger Series'.

**The unique one-day tournament is played across two sessions - 11am-5pm and 7pm-11.30pm on Saturday 17th December**

17th December 2022 - Champions Shootout

**The draw for this Saturday’s 2022 Champion of Champions Shootout has been completed and can now be announced.**  

Ultimate Pool’s one-day end-of-season extravaganza takes place at the Players Pool & Snooker Lounge in Newcastle-under-Lyme and features the event winners from this year’s Pro and Challenger Series’. This year’s event winners are: 

Pro Series - **Michael Hill** (Events 1,4 and 6), **Chris Melling** (Event 2), **Jack Whelan** (Event 3), **Karl Sutton** (Event 5), **Tom Cousins** (Event 7), **Shane Thompson** (Event 8) 

Challenger Series – **Neil Brittain** (Event 1), **Josh Corkett** (Event 2), **Cameron Tolley** (Event 3), **Callum Singleton** (Event 4), **Richie Oliver** (Event 5), **Jez Graham** (Event 6), **Ian Ali** (Event 7), **Peter Mullaney** (Event 8). 

Due to Michael Hill winning multiple events, as per the tournament rules, the highest ranked players from the professional ranking list who have not won a 2022 Pro Series event are invited. These are fourth-placed **Stevie Dempsey** and seventh-placed **Gareth Potts**.

## The Draw 

A straight knockout event, the random draw is below. Please note, this is the tournament bracket that is now fixed for the duration.

Arguably the standout tie of the opening round is Shane Thompson v Michael Hill – a match between Ultimate Pool’s first two number one professionals. 

Tom Cousins and Ian Ali come into the event in great form having won titles last weekend, while reigning champion Chris Melling – who defeated Chris Day in the final here just over 12 months ago – starts his title defence against Peter Mullaney, winner of the last Challenger Series event. 

## The Schedule 

There are morning/afternoon (11:00 – 17:00) and evening (19:00-23:30) sessions for the event. 

The opening round will be played in the morning/afternoon, with the quarters, semis and final completed in the evening. 

## Format 

All matches in all rounds are races to five frames with a 25-minute match-clock. 

Players have 30 seconds per shot for the first 15 minutes, but just 15 seconds for the final 10 minutes of the match. 

If the match-clock expires and the scores are tied, a 6-red shootout will be played to determine the match winner. 

## Prize Money 

There is a £25,000 prize fund for this year’s event, with the winner banking £15,000.

Spectators are welcome to attend the venue to watch the action completely free of charge – no need to buy a ticket, just turn up to the venue.

Champion of Champions Shootout 2022 – The Draw and Information

**An Ultimate Pool record top prize of £15,000 will go to the winner of this Saturday’s 2022 Champion of Champions Shootout which is live all day on ViaPlay Sports UK, ultimatepool.tv and the Ultimate Pool App.** 

Featuring winners from this season’s Pro Series and Challenger Series, the Shootout event will be fast and furious, with 25-minute matches on show at the Players Pool and Snooker Lounge in Newcastle-under-Lyme. There will be a £25,000 prize fund for the 16-player invitational event, with the winner banking 15k of that – one thousand pounds more than what Stevie Dempsey received earlier this year for winning the Grand Slam. 

The runner-up will win £5,000 and the semi-finalists will both get £2,500. 

Defending champion Chris Melling won the inaugural event last year when he defeated Chris Day in the final.

2022 Champion of Champions - Draw and Information

**Tom Cousins continued his fantastic form to win his second Ultimate Pool title in just eight days and wrap up the 2022 season with victory at the Champion of Champions Shootout and collect a top prize of £15,000.** 

After a difficult few outings on the sport’s top tier, the real Cousins stood up in Blackpool last weekend claiming his maiden title within the organisation at Pro Series Event 7. That win saw the Welshman qualify for Saturday’s 16-player one-day extravaganza featuring Series event winners from both the Pro and Challenger sections this year.

The two-time world champion began against another cueist coming in with confidence – Challenger Series Event 7 victor Ian Ali – but he progressed to the evening session after a 5-3 win. 

Cousins then eliminated Challenger Series number one Callum Singleton 5-1 in the quarter-finals before break clearing in the deciding frame against professional number one and six-time world champion Michael Hill to win 5-4 in what was a last four classic.

Coming through the other side of the draw was another former world champion in Jack Whelan. 

A fellow first season professional on the Ultimate Pool circuit, Whelan was also looking for a title double having won at Pro Series Event 3. Whilst you can never really relax in this fast shootout format, The Wonder took control early on in all three of his matches leading to the final, defeating Richie Oliver 5-2, Jez Graham 5-2 and then Stevie Dempsey 4-3 in the semi-finals. 

A mouthwatering final between two of the world’s best players over the past decade and longer, Top Cat was not to be denied. He made up for some unforced errors with a display of brilliant shotmaking – and despite a golden break from Whelan in frame four – he ran out a comfortable 5-1 winner to lift the trophy in front of the live television cameras.
