Following John Chambers’ dramatic win on Monday night in Group 12, another quarter of the last 64 and 32 draw in the 2021 Apply Mortgages Ultimate Pool Masters is now complete.
Throughout the event, we are also keeping score on the number of break dish finishes and the best breakers. Although this is a very small sample to start with, over time and several other Ultimate Pool events, we may get a picture on who the sport’s most consistent cueists are in those particular departments.
THE BEST BREAK DISHERS
There is a new name at the top of the Break Dish chart with Chris Day leading the way on six.
However, it seems inevitable that Day will not stay there, as he is unable to add to his tally due to being eliminated in the last 32 by Simon Fitzsimmons.
Incredibly, World Team Championship winner Day scored those six clearances from only 11 breaks during the night. Despite losing the group final 7-5 to Fitzsimmons, Day constructed four break dishes in the match – the only player in the competition so far to have made more than three in a single tie.
There were 14 clearances overall in Group 9 – four more than the next best (Group 7).
Group 11 winner Craig Waddingham was also on superb form, crafting five from only nine breaks.
All players with three or more break dishes (after Week 12):
Chris Day 6 (out of 11 breaks) Craig Waddingham 5 (9) Simon Fitzsimmons 5* (12) Phil Harrison 4 (9) Carl Morris 4 (9) Rob Chilton 4 (10) Jordan Church 4 (11) Declan Brennan 4 (12) Shane Thompson 4 (12) Karl Sutton 3 (10) Marc Farnsworth 3 (10) John Chambers 3 (12) Josh Kane 3 (12) Chris Melling 3 (12) Jordan Shepherd 3 (12) *Includes a Golden Break
THE BEST BREAKER
Carl Morris continues to lead the way at the top of the break chart for rounds one and two, although Fitzsimmons got very close to him and did perform more breaks.
During his first-round meeting with Mike King, Fitzsimmons legally potted off all six of his breaks. Day did exactly the same against Fitzsimmons in the group final later in the night.
The other instances of a 100% break success in a match during the competition so far are Carl Morris (Group 4) and Martin McIntosh (Group 6) who both struck five out of five.
All players with successful break percentages of 70% and over (after Week 12)
Carl Morris 89% (8 out of 9 breaks) Simon Fitzsimmons 83% (10/12) Greg Batten 83% (5/6) Chris Day 82% (9/11) Martin McIntosh 80% (8/10) Zak Shepherd 80% (4/5) Sam Bircher 73% (8/11) Jordan Church 73% (8/11) Karl Sutton 70% (7/10) Players highlighted in both lists are still active in the event.
